What
is ASPO Switzerland?

ASPO is the abbreviation of \"Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas\", or in German \"Arbeitsgruppe für das Studium von Peak Oil und Gas\".
The first informal ASPO network of scientists acting as experts in their fields of research in the study of Peak Oil originated in Europe in the year 2000. Pioneers in this movement are petro-geologists Colin Campbell and Jean Laherrère.
ASPO CH (Switzerland) was founded in 2006 by Dr.Daniele Ganser (Historian), Basil Gelpke (Publicist), Matthias Erne (Lawyer), Dr.Fred Stumm (Petroleum Geologist), and Dr.Walter Ziegler (Petroleum Geologist). The founders act honorarily and without payment as the board of ASPO Switzerland.
The ASPO is an association for the common good, is independent, and does not belong to any political party or industry. Anyone living in Switzerland who would like to promote the aims of the association can become a member by following this link.
The ASPO CH association, being part of a global network of scientists in different fields of interest, benefits from international knowledge exchange concerning Peak Oil and Gas. ASPO Switzerland aims at creating a broad awareness about the Peak Oil and Gas phenomena and their consequences, and to thus contribute to the preparation of Switzerland for this big challenge.
The issue of finite resources on earth combined with population growth has already been treated at the end of the 18th century by the British economist Thomas Malthus using food as an example. The work of petro-geologist Marion King Hubbert in the late 1950s and that of system theorist Dennis Meadows and the \'Club of Rome\' (Limits of Growth) in the 1970s called attention to this topic again but with little success.
Statements of ASPO Switzerland are based on scientific research and the results of well known specialists, among which Colin Campbell, Jean Laherrère, Matthew Simmons, Werner Zittle and Chris Skrebowski.
